  • Changes to Personal Training fees: As from the 1st September 2008 we will be increasing the cost of Personal Training fees and the discount structure. Please contact us or pick up an info sheet for more information
  • New Ladies Only Thai Boxing Course starting on the 8th August 2008.  If you are interested or know of anyone that might be interested, full course details can be found on the Ocean Gym Website:  Ladies Thai Boxing Course
  • Timetable Change: As from the 8th August 2008, due to the new Ladies Course starting, Friday's sparring class will now start at 7.00pm and finish at approx. 8.10pm
  • GLOVE/SHIN PAD POLICY: As from the 1st May 2008, we will no longer be providing gloves and shinpads for students to use in training.  All students will be required to bring their own equipment to train in.

    The reasons for this are:

    A)    Hygiene. Communal used gloves harbour bacteria as they are used by so many people this can lead to skin infections and the spread of disease.  Ask yourself, would you wear socks/football boots/t-shirts that had been worn by hundreds of other people, sweated in and unwashed?!!

    B)    Smell.  Due to the mixing of sweat the gloves smell, gloves cannot be washed due to their composition.  This is leaving your hands smelling but also the gym smelling of sweat and as the summer months approach this is only going to get worse.

    C)    Injuries. Wearing gloves and shinpads that do not correctly fit your hands/legs can cause injury, so get your own that fit you and your style.

    What will you need?

Ideally you will need a pair of bag gloves for pad and bag work, a pair of boxing gloves for combination work and sparring and a pair of shinpads. Some people do wear their boxing gloves for pads and bags instead of getting both sets of gloves – this is entirely up to you.   Men will be required to have 14oz or 16oz boxing gloves if they wish to spar and you will find this weight glove much more comfortable for combination/technique work.  Ladies can wear 10oz up dependent on your weight, but again the higher the weight of the gloves the more protection for your hands

    Where to get your equipment?

You can buy your equipment from our shop or from the internet and other shops.

Please note, that we only stock the better brands.  If you buy a good quality pair of gloves and shinpads and take care of them, they will last you years.  Cheaper brands will not last so well and if they are PVC they will smell very quickly, you will also find that the dye runs onto your skin from cheaper brands.

Shinpads, you buy the basic foam shinpads although these do not provide much protection but are fine for those just using them for technique work. Leather Shin and Instep shins provide much more protection and a correct fitting pair should not move around.

    What will it cost you?

Average Prices at the Ocean Gym Shop, subject to available stock

Bag Gloves start at £15, on average will cost you £24-£30.

Boxing Gloves start at £31, on average will cost you £45-£50 Shinpads start from £10 for basic foam shinpads, leather shinpads range from £34.99 to £45.00

  • CLASS CAPACITY: Since January the Boxing and Thai Boxing classes have been extremely busy with us having to turn away students when capacity has been met.  To avoid dissapointment, please arrive early.  Those on payment schemes will be given priority before the class starts.  If these high numbers continue we will move to a pre-booking system, again with those on payment schemes getting first refusal.
  • CLUB SHORTS: On the 14th March 2008, we will be placing another club shorts order in Thailand.  If you would like to customise your own pair of shorts, please pick up on order sheet from the shop. All completed forms must be given to Rachel by close of business Thursday 13th March 2008.
  • CLUB UNIFORM: Please note that after your initial few weeks of training, all students will be expected to wear Thai Boxing or MMA shorts whilst training unless attending the Boxing class.
  • GYM CLOSURE:  The gym will be closed on all the forthcoming bank holidays. We will also be closing on Friday May 23rd 2008, the fighters/sparring class will move to 8.30pm Thursday for this week only.
